How to Clean the Garage Door

The garage door often gets left out when it comes to cleaning day. If it’s used daily, the garage is one of the most used pieces of equipment on the exterior of your home. When it’s warm outside, it’s quite easy to give your garage a little TLC, and it won’t take long. When the sun is shining, it’s a good time to expand your cleaning checklist to include the garage door.

Cleaning Wooden Garage Doors

Wood tends to be a bit more finicky than other materials. It’s best to clean your garage door at least once a year with a cloth, mild detergent, and a quick hose-down to rinse it off. This will keep it looking good, and prevent any need for premature replacement.

How to Clean Metal Garage Doors

Washing a steel garage door is easy. Start from the bottom and work your way up, using a cloth or sponge soaked in a mild cleaning solution. If the door is rusty, you can use a typical anti-rust solution and a soft-bristled brush. If it is mildew-stained, you can also use a very soft bristled brush to remove it.

How To Clean Aluminium Garage Door

Make a solution from vinegar and warm water in a bucket using a ratio of 1 tablespoon of vinegar to 2 cups of water – you can obviously add to this as necessary. Using the solution, wet a cloth or non-abrasive pad in the vinegar-water mixture and then use it to wipe down the aluminium surface gently. For any eroding that has taken place, you can use a special chemical supplied by your garage door professionals.

Don’t use a pressure cleaner to clean your aluminium garage door, as it may cause ripples or dents.

How to Clean a Roll-Up Garage Door

Be careful when you clean this type of door, as it may catch your fingers. Using a soft cloth and furniture polish, you can dust in between the slats. Make sure that the door is half open so that you can get in between with ease.

How to Clean Your Garage Floor

This depends on the garage floor that you have. If you have a typical garage floor, you can keep it clean by regularly sweeping it. If there are oil stains on the floor, you can use a powerful detergent with some sand and a hard bristled broom to scrub it. For the most stubborn stains, you can also use a pressure washer. As a rule, you should keep your garage organised and clean so that dirt and dust don’t build up. Everyday maintenance will make it easier to keep your home clean.
